Legal Question in Consumer Law in Utah

Dental Charges - Somthing isn't right?

One year ago, I went in for a toothache. The dentist looked at my teeth and said I need a crown and an overlay. I made an a new appt. Later that week, I lost my job and didn't dare go back because I lost dental insurance and income.

I subsequently get nasty bills in the mail stating that I owe $1,200 for two office visits. Followed by letters from attorneys until such a time as my checks were garnished. Still, only two dental visits, and one was a cleaning. Is this right?

It does not sound right, but if you got garnished you were sued first. You should have gone to court to object. If you fail to appear at a court hearing a default judgment is issued. It can be appealed within 90 days....
