Legal Question in Consumer Law in Utah
Divorce laws and repossesions
When posessions were divided and awarded, my wife and I each got our own cars. We each were obligated to the payments remaining and this was clarified and stated in the divorce decree. My ex-wife lost her car to re-possesion and now the loan co is trying to garnish my wages for her 10,000.00 debt. Do they have the right to do this? Please explain to me what I can do and what rights I have. I appreciate your time on this matter. Thank You
Garth

Re: Divorce laws and repossesions
The divorce court did not release you from liability on the debt to the bank. You are still jointly liable with her on the payments. You can demand reimbursement from your ex.
