Legal Question in Consumer Law in Utah
My parents are struggling with their finances
My parents are 60+ years of age. They only have about 3 more months with a car lease, that
costs them about $700.00 per month. My father is retired, and mother is working part-time.
To make a long story short, they are struggling to the point where my father doesn't even
have money for his medication aided by insurance. The $700.00 a month would be a big help to
them. So, my question is this:
If they take their car back to the dealer(Chrysler) and let them know they do intend to pay
off the remaining amount but can only afford to pay them say $100.00 a month , is there a
law to protect them from any sort of legal ramifications the ''dealer'' may try to pursue?

Re: My parents are struggling with their finances
The lease would probably allow them to sell the car for more than is owed. You can call for the payoff, maybe the car has residual value allowing them to sell. Otherwise, have them default on the remaining lease payments, and make the payments as soon as possible. Ultimately they will have to pay the balance to Chrysler.
