Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Utah

I was in an accident and my vehicle was totaled. The officer on seen contacted a towing company to pick up the car and I was taken by ambulance to the hospital. I had only liability on the vehicle and was found responsible for the accident. I never picked up the vehicle from the tow company. I was contacted by a collection agency notifing me that I owe $1569.00(principal) to the company and if it was not paid they were going to begin legal proceedings. Is this legal?
