Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Utah

A bank garnishment by a creditor

Two years ago instead of filing bankruptcy, I went through a dept settlement co. We then did a refinance/dept consoladation to clear up the dept. There was one account that stated it was a profit/loss writeoff/settled. A week ago my savings account was garnished with no prior notice to me.

Both the bank and Dept Regret said this account was settled in the refinance. This was settled in November of 2006.

What does profit/loss writeoff really mean? Can anybody besides the IRS or a court garnish a bank account?

I do have a court day next week so I was wondering what advice may help me.

Re: A bank garnishment by a creditor

Your account cannot be garnished unless someone has already been granted a judgment. More facts are necessary to determine what is best for you.
