Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Utah

I had Checks stolen from my home. I have to call all the merchants to let them know it was stolen. I had only one Merchant that I called that was just not sitting right with me. I called Maverick Gas stations to report that 2 men have stolen checks and writing my husbands name on them. The guy asked me for the bank routing # and Checking # and wanted mine and my husbands name. I gave it to him. He then tells me he just sent me to collections and I can deal with collections.. Can he automatically send me to collections before he even received any of these checks back and I called him on my own???????? Also, their clerks never checked ID. I brought this up to him. He said they don't have to check ID unless it is over $50. That sounds like they set people up to have fraud done against them. Is there anything I can do???? Because Maverick is purposely ruining my credit knowing in advance these checks will eventually come in but they were sneaky took my information and then tell me they just sent me to collections when I called in.

You will have to resolve this with the collections company. Get a letter from the bank confirming that you reported the checks stolen.
