Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Utah

Debt collection

I got a call from a law officie asking me to pay an old debt of $1200 to an apartment complex where I lived three years ago. Since, I have moved out of the state. Can they still file a lawsuit against me in Utah??

Re: Debt collection

Yes. Consider negotiating a settlement with the law firm, otherwise this will wind up on your credit record and follow you for the next 7-10 years. Part of your negotiation should be that neither the attorney, collection agency or apartment will file any negative credit report. Make sure they itemize the debt they claim. Also you can write them and tell them to only communicate with you in writing and request verification of the debt.
