Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Utah
Financial Trouble
I don't know if I would have a case, but I had applied for a job through career builders and throught this job I was supposed to help a client cash their checks and wire money to their other office. Well, I was able to cash the check and it turns out to be a bad check. Now Wells Fargo is holding me reliable for the sum of $5000. I called and spoke with two different managers at Wells Fargo and when both of them looked into the check that was cashed, they both told me that the check never should have been cashed to me in the first place. The account number on the check was to a valid account but it was an account where no money was a no withdrawl account. Also I spoke with several banks and they all said that no check in that amount is normally cashed without the cash available in the account if it were to bounce. So, seeing how the branch manager okayed the transaction...i'm wondering if the bank coulda have been at fault here?! I'm sure legally I am the one responsible for this but is there no remedy for having been a victim of fraud as well?

Re: Financial Trouble
You are responsible to Wells Fargo. They can also place a collection on the account of the issuer. You also have a right to recover from the issuer. Try to find the person that issued the check and have them make it good.
