friend owes money

I bought a laptop for my friend a year ago. It was almost 2000 USD, he was living with me at the time and had a job and was a good friend. He agreed to pay me about 400 a month untell he pays me off. This never happened. Him paying rent and other things made it so that to this day over a year ago he still owes me the full amount for the computer. what can i do to get the money back? He is in the US national guard, but other than that has no other job.

If he will not voluntarily pay you will have to sue him to be assured of payment. Sue in small claims court.
