Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Utah

Garnishment of disability benefits

I owe $6000 to one credit card company. They have won a judgement against me. I have $882 a month disability compensation, all of which goes into my checking account. Can a court attach/garnish any of that to pay the creditor off?

Thank you,.

Re: Garnishment of disability benefits

Courts do not garnish, creditors garnish. If they attempt a garnish, you need to object that the funds in your account are exempt. If you do not object, then the creditor keeps the money.
