Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Utah

payday check fraud

Got a place called PMI associates who got hold of me at work and proceeded to tell it was a federal investigation and that I had told them that I was not going to pay so they were going to proceed with prosecution or garnishment. It seemed to be quite the scare tatic what power if any does he have? Keep in mind that I have not spoken to nayone from PMI till this day. And my boss was none too happy.

If that company is a collection agency, based on what you said, the call was a violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. You can sue them for up to $1500 in damages plus attorney fees.
