Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Utah

I just recieved a motion of summary judgement for a $10.00 check they want over $600 to settle the debt I spoke to the law office which sounded like a call center and they agreed to lower it to $400 if i pay now. What should I do? It seems like a scam using the legal system to their advantage

They are probably within the law, as utah law allows damages up to $500.
