Legal Question in Criminal Law in Utah
so i was arrested for stealing $80 from my work and i was sentenced and i went to jail and i am on probation and i paid back the $80 the day i was caught. so i am just in the motions of paying off my fine and getting everything the judge asks me to take care of. and then one day at one of my probation hearings the judge told me that my boss was calling to see when i was going to pay restitution. now i know exactly what he is doing. when i was arrested my boss accused me from stealing about $600-$800 dollars over the period of time of me working there. and it is ridiculous because pretty much every day the tills are never exactly on they are either positive or negative but he just took all the times i worked and the times that they were negative and then blamed it all on me. there are about 5 people working in one shift and mistakes are made all the time in the purchases. but the cop that arrested me said that i wasn't going to be charged for that but i was just going to be charged for what they could prove which was the $80. I just want to get on with my life but i feel like im going to get pulled back into more problems and get charged somehow for something i didnt do. so what can happen and what should i do in this situation. when i told the judge at my hearing that i did pay back the $80 he was like oh..hmmm well i wouldnt worry it about it for now but said something about them being able to come after me civily.

It sounds like your sentence was to pay the $80. If you have done that and when you have completed your probation, you are finished with the criminal portion. Your employer can sue you in civil court claiming you owe more. However, he has to prove that it is more likely than not that you are the one that stole the additional money.
