Legal Question in Criminal Law in Utah

I have not been charged with anything yet. But I made up some horrible flyers about a girl at my daughters school who has been harrassing my daughter. The mother has threatened to kill me in a note but never admitted to doing so and nothing was done to her. But these flyers were put on the school grounds and found by the custodial lady. I admitted to the police I did this. They told me the information would be submitted to the D A's office and I would be contacted for the charges if any. I am freaking out. I have never been in trouble with the law before. They said the worst that could happen is they will send me to jail. So now Im freaking out because Im a single mom and diabetic and dont know what to do. Is there any advise you can give me on what MAY happen, and how far this may go and what exactly does the D A's office mean and how hard are they? Someone please help me
