Legal Question in Criminal Law in Utah
Jurisdiction
I have a friend who is currently charged with kidnapping his girlfriend. The alleged crime took place in Colorado, but he was arrested in Utah. My question is, whether or not he will be arrained in Colorado and where the trial (if it should get to that point) will be held. Thank you.

Re: Jurisdiction
Jurisdiction is always a little tricky. Based on Colorado law, your friend could be tried in either in Colorado (in the county where the girlfriend was allegedly kidnapped from, or really any county where they travelled through) or in Utah where he was arrested (if the girlfriend was with him when arrested or allegedly taken to Utah). Usually, the jurisdiction that has the most ties to the crime or victim will get the case (meaning where the crime started and/or where the victim lived). Based on that, I think he will be extradited to Colorado.
