Legal Question in Criminal Law in Utah
Lawyer Overcharging
I recently annulled a marriage i was in. My ex paid less than $1000 and his attorney wrote every single document. My attorney charged me over $7000. He nickled and dimed me for everything and has been very uncooperative. He also complained about me to my ex husband's lawyer telling me that I was an incapable child. I am only twenty years old and the emotional and financial strain of the annullment nearly tore me apart. I asked him a few times for estimates of the total cost and not only did he send me a very rude unprofessional response, he soreley underestimated. From our first phone call he indicated that I would probably be charged around $3000 total. Now I need some old documents from him and he will not answer or return my calls.

Re: Lawyer Overcharging
Who is the lawyer? If you have issues with your lawyer, you can contact the Utah State Bar, and they will contact him. http://www.utahbar.org/public/consumer_assistance_program.html
It is an ethical violation for your attorney to not provide you, within a reasonable amount of time, your file when you ask for it.
