Legal Question in Criminal Law in Utah
I was recently caught shoplifting from Target in the amount of $140. This is my second time caught. The first was in 1998 when I was 18. What are the consequences for the second time in the state of Utah? I have two small children and cannot go to jail. If jail is a possibility, do you think I will be able to do house arrest? I don't know what I was thinking....I just had a brief lapse in judgment! Please let me know what you think I should do. Should I hire a lawyer to be with me at my court date?
Sincerely,
Anne

A lawyer can make sure you get the least punishment. You can also ask the court for mercy. Since it has been 12 years the court should be lenient.
