Legal Question in Criminal Law in Utah

My son was assaulted last May. He suffered a shattered cheekbone, crushed sinus, broken lower eye orbit and a 5" laceration. We had approx. 12K in medical bills.

The kid who did it has been arrested and is facing criminal charges of aggravated assault.

The kid's lawyer has been calling my son directly and talking to him about the fact they want to plead the case down to a misdemeanor "because this is basically a good kid."

Should he be talking to my son - the victim in the crime - without the prosecutor's knowledge or presence?

Anyone can talk to your son as long as he doesn't ask your son to change his testimony. The prosecutor represents the State, not your son. Having said that, you son isn't required to talk to anyone about anything.
