Legal Question in Criminal Law in Utah

My son was charged with the theft of a neighbors safe, he is 17. I had no knowledge of this, so when the cop asked to search my house I let him. Had I known my son had it in his room, I wouldnt have let them in. Now they are charging me with a second degree felony, burglary because supposedly other things were also missing from their home. They searched mine, found nothing. I was in bed asleep when all this happened..My son already plead guilty to the safe, it was reduced to a tresspassing and he got probation. I havent done a damn thing but be present in my own home and they are charging me with this? I cannot afford counsel so one has been appointed to me. This guy scares me because hes telling me I can do 15 years! I dont even have a record. Please help me!!

Plead not guilty. You may qualify for a public defender so ask. Otherwise the prosecutor will have to prove that you participated and was guilty of the crime beyond any reasonable doubt.
