Legal Question in Criminal Law in Utah
Traffic stop. Utah. Pulled over the truck was rented from home Depot the detective pulled him over saying the plates didn't match the vehicle. All the info in the truck showed that the plates did indeed match the vehicle. Does the defense have to prove that the plates didn't match.?

In order for the State to prove that the stop was valid the officer would have to prove that he reasonably believed that the plates didn't match the vehicle, if you are asking about a legal traffic stop. If you are asking about the ticket itself if you received one, it would be easy to prove if it really did match the vehicle.
