Re: employee discrimination

If you were fired based on a form of prohibited discrimination, you must first file a complaint with the Utah Anti Discrimination Division, which handles complaints for the EEOC as well. They will make an initial investigation. You do not need an attorney for that portion, although you may wish to discuss the facts with an attorney to make sure your case may be covered by the law.

The UADD will make a finding, and may be able to get you the relief you want. If you do not settle with the UADD, and decide to file a lawsuit, you should have an attorney.

Note, not all discrimination is protected by the law. If the employer does not like red headed people, that is not covered. However, if you were fired based on race, religion, sex, or age you may have a claim.
