Legal Question in Discrimination Law in Utah

Male name change

Why is it legal for my wife to just take our marriage certificate to the DMV and change the name on her drivers license but I can not do the same thing? Even though my social security card has my new married name on it they refuse to change my license. Isn't that sexual dicrimnation?

Re: Male name change

I assume that when you married each of you took the other's last name and added it to your former names, so you became (for example) "Smith-Jones'. There is probably no logical reason other than people are used to our convention of a woman taking a man's name, but not the reverse. Return to the DMV and talk to a supervisor. Make them give you a reason based on the Utah Statutes as to why they don't want to make the change.

It is not sexual discrimination for which there is a legal recourse, as it is defined in the law - just bureaucratic nonsense.
