patient doctor confidentuality

I am not sure i choose the right law. anyway, I had

surgery on my left wrist about 3 months ago, and I am on public assistant, my case worker gave me some forms so my doctor could fill out to see how long i would be out of work. he said he did not fill those type of pappers out, but spoke to her about me over the phone, stating i wanted more surgerys, and was taking to many pain pills,This was not in writing it was over the phone from my doctor to my case worker, isn't their a law that prevents a doctor to talk about you like your just anyone, I mean I think that was not professional of him. please answere back no one else has.

You are entitled to privacy, and he should have obtained a release from you. However, he will probably argue that he only gave the same information which he would have provided on the forms, and you requested the transfer of information through the forms. I don't see that you have a lawsuit, however, you may want to express your feelings to the Doctor.

I suspect your concern went to whether you are taking too many pain pills, and that knowledge becoming public. Pain pill abuse is a significant problem, and you should consult with your doctor to control the pain. Perhaps there was something in the surgery which needs attention, or another problem. In any event, you should work with the doctor to get your pain under control.
