Legal Question in Education Law in Utah
Stealing
Okay i am not a lawyer. but this one
is driving me up the wall. Okay so if
my friend takes my ipod from my
house without my permission, then
loses it. Does he have to pay for a
brand new one, and pay for the case
that was on it?

Re: Stealing
In its simplest form its called conversion, a civil tort that permanently denies the rightful owner of an items use and enjoyment.
If you dont press criminal charges, which are separate and distinct, your "friend" is responsible for the replacement value of the item, its case and the value of the music that you had on the ipod.
