Legal Question in Family Law in Utah
I'm 16 and I have a 4 month old daughter, her father and I aren't together he is 19. At the time i got pregnant i was 15 he was 18. He hasn't been involved in my daughters life and I want to file for child supprt but I don't want him to be sent to jail or something I'm not sure how this all works, he's not on the birth certificate. So my questions are how do I go about filing for child support? Do I need to meet with a lawyer? Will he get into any kind of trouble? and will he get visitation rights?

Contact the Utah Office of Recovery Services.
Your best approach would be to contact the Office of Recovery Services. They will assist you in getting paternity formally established as well as child support and other financial support issues. However, by going through ORS, they don't address visitation matters. That would be something the father would have to initiate on his own by bringing a separate legal action.
