What steps are taken to legally become emancipated?

You can file a petition for emancipation with the district court in the county where you live. If you can convince the court that you can support and care for yourself the judge MAY emancipate you. However, before you make this decision, I strongly suggest that you see a counselor. Free or low cost counseling is available through your school, or through your local mental health department.
