Abandodned Property?

My mother went through a divorce by means of mediation. The property was considered divided when teh judge signed the papers. It has been 18 months since then and my father has not claimed his property. We live in UT and someone told me that after a year property that has not been claimed or picked up by whomever had ownership of this property it is considered abandoned and then becomes the property of whomever has possesion of it. I would appreciate any advice you may have or anywhere I may be able to find an answer to this question. Thanks for your time.

Send certified mail notice and give a reasonable time by which the property must be moved. If not moved, you can dispose of however you wish.
