Legal Question in Family Law in Utah

Adoption Agency Problems

We were doing a foreign adoption, We found a child and submitted our paper work and a large sum of cash. Our agency said we had a 90% chance of getting accepted to adopt from that country, And if we were not accepted we would be refunded all of our money. After 4 months we were rejected. When we asked about our money the got upset at us, and said they would look into it. Now they are not answering our calls.

So my question is.. What legal options do I have to get my money returned?

Re: Adoption Agency Problems

You should report this to the Utah Attorney General's Office, Consumer Fraud Division. You have probably been a victim of fraud. Because the agency is apparently overseas your chances of recovery are slim. However, your case deserves an investigation, if there are any contacts in the US you may get some recovery. NEVER make an investment in an adoption without using a reputable and locally connected agency or through a local attorney. There is no shortage of scam artists who will take advantage of a couples compelling need to have a family.

Re: Adoption Agency Problems

I would need to see the contract you signed with the agency. If their contract says non refundable you are out of luck unless you can prove fraud. How much did you pay them. Was it just a one time shot? Or are they supposed to stay with you until you get a baby? Please give me more information on what you signed or was it all verbal?
