Legal Question in Family Law in Utah

Adoption Information

We have been approached by a friend about adopting her baby, due in January. What is the process for adoption if you don't go through an agency? Do we have to have a home study and if so, who do we contact for that. What are the approximate costs? Can an attorney do everything an agency can do?

Re: Adoption Information

You will still need a home study - the cost varies from agency to agency, but plan on $500 - $1500. A lawyer can perform the entire adoption for you, including the waiver hearings for the birth mother and father. I am just finishing one right now. The cost for the adoption in terms of legal fees is about $1500 - but is can vary depending on the needs of the families.
