This section sets forth the base child support amounts. The manner in which it is used depends on the division of children between the parties. If a couple have three children and neither parent has any other children for which they are financially responsible, and if, for example, the mother has residential control of the children, and if the father makes $2000 per month and the mother makes $1000 per month - the calculation would be made as follows. Total monthy income is $3000 and for 3 minor children the base child support is $720. Mom makes 1/3 the income and dad makes 2/3. Dad pays to mom 2/3 times the $720 or $480. The formula varies depending on individual circumstances (who has custody, amount of time with each parent, number of children, etc.)
