Legal Question in Family Law in Utah

She wants to keep the baby

I am currently engaged to be married. Yesterday a former accquaintance of mine called me to tell me that she is pregnant (about 6 months) and the baby is mine. She has already had one paternity test that showed that he was not the father. I am willing to sign away all of my rights, which she will accept. She still wants me to be responsible for medical bills. If I sign away my rights will that relieve me of financial responsibility? Assuming that the paternity test proves that the child is mine what options do I have?

Re: She wants to keep the baby

If you are the father of the child you are responsible for child support for the child until age 18. If either she takes a test which shows you are the father; or if she names you as a father, even though she does not ask for child support, the State may find you liable if she ever claims welfare of any kind.

If it is your child, you also have a moral obligation to be the father of the child. It is not fair to the child to be raised without a father.
