Legal Question in Family Law in Utah

belongings

I want to go in person to Salt Lake City, Utah where my husband currently resides with his parents to retrieve my belongings but I am being told that if I arrive in person I can not leave the premises because I am married and I need to remain but my husband has made it clear that he wants to be with his internet girlfriend and no longer has feelings for me. I would like to keep possession of the vechile for work but they are telling me I can not keep it

Re: belongings

Whoever is giving you this information is seriously misguided and misinformed. You do not have to stay on the premises. You are free to go wherever you like. I would recommend that you file for divorce and get the necessary court order to retrieve your belongings. You should simply keep the car. If there is any debt associated with the car, you would be required to pay that debt in the divorce.

Re: belongings

If you are a resident of Washington, you can file for divorce here, then go to UT. For UT law on marriage and divorce you would need to get an opinion from a UT attorney.

Re: belongings

Until there is a court order you can keep the vehicle. You are also entitled to your belonglngs. Ask a sheriff or police officer for assistance. You may call for a free consultation.
