Legal Question in Family Law in Utah

My boyfriend's divorce was filed about 9 months ago. His ex wife is fighting everything and they just started custody evalutaion this week. I have not been around his kids because it said in their papers to not have significant others around the kids. We've been dating seriously for a few months but made sure we have followed that. Now that his custody evaluation is going on, I have not heard anything from him. Im wondering how much they monitor and if he thought it was better to leave me out of it. How deep do they dig and how long do these things typically last?

Generally, once a custody evaluator begins working on the case, it usually takes about 120 days to complete. However it's at that point that the court convenes a settlement conference which includes the evaluator for the purpose of assisting the parties in reaching a settlement. In the event they are unable to settle the case at that point, the case can end up going to trial which can take several more months after that. As far as contact with your boyfriend, there shouldn't be any restriction on him having contact with you. It sounds like the only restriction is having the children around you as a signifiant other. There shouldn't be any problem with him contacting you or being with you as long as the children aren't around, so I'm not sure why you're not hearing from him at all.
