What happens when an adult falsely accuses someone of child abuse? Can they be charged with any crimes? Is there any recorse available to the harmed party?

The wrongfully accused person must prove that the acted acted with malice. If malice is proven then damages can be awarded. Damages can be actual - lost work, attorney fees etc. and/or punitive if the conduct of the accuser was outrageous.
