How do we establish legal joint custody of our 2 1/2 year old son born to a military mom in the State of Utah?

Re: child joint custody

If both mother and father are listed on the birth certificate, then joint legal custody is automatic. If father was not named, then he must file a petition to determine paternity and take a paternity test. Thereafter the court will issue an order of paternity, and the father's name will be added to the birth certificate.
