Legal Question in Family Law in Utah

child support change

My 17 year old son, who has been living with his mother, has chosen to come and live with me (father). I need to know the process that I will need to use to legally change child support. Because of the short time before he is emancipated it would probably cost more to hire an attorney than I would save with a reduction in child support so I would like to do it myself (prepare forms, etc.). Any information that you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Re: child support change

You should have a modified order of custody signed by a judge. The correct way to do this is through the courts. There are no forms. If your ex is in agreement, you will have to prepare a stipulation for change of custody and child support along with a new order and submit that to the court for the judge's approval.
