Legal Question in Family Law in Utah
There have been custody papers drawn up transferring custody of a child to her grandmother after the mother ran with the child out of state. If she does not respond in 30 days, custody is immediately granted to the grandmother. The father of the child is stating that he wants to tell her he is cancelling the legal proceedings so she will bring the child back and think things are okay, even though he is NOT cancelling, causing transfer of custody to be by default of the childs mother. Is this legal?

It would be wise for the mother to appear - if she has the best interests of the child at heart. It is probably not best for the child for the mother to become a fugitive.
