Legal Question in Family Law in Utah
custody/interference with custodial rights
I left Utah this last May with my two children, who have been sexually abused. Their behavior was getting odder, and I chose to relocate to Arizona. Two weeks after moving, my children told me their dad had abused them, one time, when he was drunk, and threatened them with jail if they told. I came back to Utah in Sept. made an appointment to meet with a detective. When I arrived I got arrested for custodial interference and now my ex is going for modification of divorce, wanting custody of the children. I have no money and can not beleive my children's interviews are not enough. Any advice?

Re: custody/interference with custodial rights
1. You broke the law when you left Utah without notifying your ex. 2. You should have reported the abuse when you learned of it. Now it will look like retaliation for his attempts to get custody. Call Utah Legal Services who will represent you at little or no charge. Also file the abuse charges ASAP even though it is late. Make sure that your children are telling the truth and not what they thought you wanted to hear.
