Legal Question in Family Law in Utah

A divorce decree mandated a certain amount of alimony as part of the divorce settlement. If both ex-spouses verbally agree (outside of court) to accept less than what the divorce decree states, can the person paying the alimony later make the alimony claim null and void because of a verbal agreement to accept less? Does it nullify the agreement?
