Legal Question in Family Law in Utah

After our divorce, my husband used my name (not his) to transfer phone and cell service to a new apartment. He has run up a substantial bill and now the phone company is coming after me. Can he move phone service and use my name and SS number? Am I responsible for the amount owing to Qwest?

thank you

No, he cannot do that legally and in fact may be subject to being prosecuted criminally. I'm assuming you've discussed this with Qwest and brought it to their attention. You would not be responsible for paying whatever is owing. You may want to consider taking him back to court in your divorce action asking that he be held in contempt for violating provisions of the divorce decree. You should consider doing this in addition to contacting the police to report his illegal actions.
