Legal Question in Family Law in Utah

Domestic dispute problems

I'm married by 21 years during which I have had to do everything responsible cause my wife is frankly irresponsible, violent, and abusive to me and our kids. We cannot do anything as a family because my wife always ruins it for all of us she now takes meds to control mood problems and Bipolar type II yet is able to calmly be a school teacher. ? If I file for divorce in utah I am told she is babyed on everything even if she is the abusier and my self and my now all teenage kids are victoms. We really just want this over but she just wants to just be violent and will not do jack to help ou t our family. My kids want nothing to do with her and them and I get along great. When she is having one of her fits slapping everyone around and her mouth going off even in public we all just want to vanish it is so demeaning and imbarrasing. The local police will not do anything at all cause ''she is the woman''. She claims if I file divorce she will make my life a living hell. Thats hard to amagine worse from where I stand. My 15 yr old daughter heard her talking to a parant who was bragging how she bruised herself up just to put him away and has gotten away with it. What can we do?

Re: Domestic dispute problems

Quite simply, you need to file for divorce. If she is being physically abusive to your children, you need to report it to DCFS and seek a Juvenile Protective Order on behalf of your children. She needs to be removed from the home and the children protected.

Re: Domestic dispute problems

If you file first, remove her from the home and immediately seek temporary custody of the children, your chances for custody are improved. The children appear old enough so that there opinion will be taken into consideration by the courts. I have handled cases like yours before and obtained custody for the father.
