Legal Question in Family Law in Utah
How to drop assault charges?
Fiance & I got into argument. We shoved each other but nothing more than that. I called my mom just to provoke fiance. He knocked the phone from me. My mom called the cops. Cops came, and I urged fiance to take off and he did. I signed a complaint with the cops, mostly under pressure from my mom. I didn't say I shoved him, too. Cops found him and arrested him and charged him with assault & battery. (battery due to him knocking thephone out of my hands) Fiance had to sign the citations and ordered to make a court date in two weeks. He didn't tell them I shoved him, too. How can I retract what I have done? How can I drop the charges? I called and was told no detective was assigned yet. Who do I call now? Or just go to court with him and tell the judge I regret it? Will I get in trouble for filing false charges? I am so sorry for provoking him and need to know how to fix what I have done. I had no bruises, marks. Only being emotional and exaggerating the circumstances. What proof will they have against him? He didn't admit to anything to the cops.

Contact and tell the prosecutor that you will not testify nor press charges. They should be dismissed if you explain what happened.
Don't get married until both of you get some premarital counseling. This is not a healthy beginning.
