Legal Question in Family Law in Utah
My ex-wife closed the child support case 4 years ago, because she was mad at them, she was married to someone else and they wanted to adopt my son, but it never happened, she has since then divorced from this guy and has reopened the child support case and is demanding that I pay for those 4 years which is 9,336.00 this seems dishonest can the child support agency do this? I haven't heard from them or from my x-wife or my son.

Until such time as a court order has been entered relieving you of your obligation to pay child support, you're still required to pay it whether your ex has an open case with ORS or not. If you haven't been making the court ordered child support payments, you're going to be required to pay whatever the arrearage is. If you haven't heard from your son, I'm assuming you mean you're not having any contact with him. This is a different issue involving your parent-time, or visitation, rights which are not connected to support issues. If your ex wife is not allowing you to have access to your son, you have the right to seek enforcement of your visitation rights through the court.
