Legal Question in Family Law in Utah
I filed myself for divorce in 2001 here in SLC.My ex refused to take the classes. We have 2 kids who are now teenagers. For the past 8 years my ex has moved around/changed her # and won't let me see or talk to the kids. During this time I have paid my child support. I have no idea if my kids are ok know about me or if they know I have been looking for them. I just want a divorce at this point. Since the kids don't know me or seen me in over 8 years, would I ask for my rights to be taken away?? Would the judge make her hand the kids over? I know she lives in the state. When we filed for divorce she dropped the ball now I have to start over again. Would a judge look down on my ex for keeping the kids from me?

You can get her address through ORS if they are collecting child support. You can also seek contempt charges against your ex. You can also file for reunification with your children - which would be good for the children. It would be helpful for them to know that you did not abandon them and still care for them. We all want and need parents, your children are no different.
A judge would be very upset with your ex for hiding the children.
