Legal Question in Family Law in Utah

I have an ex girlfriend trying to take out child support on me but we have never gone to court for anything legal for our custody. I heard that if both parents get equal time with the child like the same amount then neither parents have to pay child support. Is this true?

It's only true if you have a court order that says there is no child support. The only scenario where that might be true, under a court order, is where the parents have an equal time sharing arrangement and their incomes are identical. Unless and until you take her to court to get a custody order with an included child support order, she's entitled to get an administrative child support order through the Utah Office of Recovery Services. I highly recommend you retain and attorney if you want to protect your rights as the child's father. I offer a free initial consultation and you can contact me at 801-274-3100. Thank you.
