Legal Question in Family Law in Utah
My Girlfriend and I want to start a family together, she is pregnant from another man living in NYC, we live in Utah. At this point he's not aware that it's his. We are wavering on telling him or not. We would like to be open about the situation, but we are worried about his legal rights to be in the child's life. What should we know? Putting the non-biological father on the birth certificate? Asking the biological father to sign away his parental rights?

If you get married before the child is born then you would be the presumed father and have all of the parental fights of a regular father. If you don't do that, you don't have to put the father on the birth certificate but you would have to eventually adopt the child down the road if you would want to have custody of him.
