Legal Question in Family Law in Utah

Information on rights of fathers in divorce

My brother is getting a divorce and his soon-to-be ex-wife is trying to take him for all she can. He is and has been working three jobs and doing some free lancing, but in paying for all her expenses aa well as the kids, he has no money to afford a lawyer. She has a mentally abusive personality. And because of this he won't try and protect his rights. Is there any specific information available to help protect his rights?

First recognize that he is not attempting to protect his rights because of his decisions, not hers. He has a right to one-half the marital property; he will be obligated for child support and perhaps some alimony. It is unwise to work 3 jobs to support her and the children, since the extra money will be imputed to him as permanent income. He should figure out a way to get a lawyer - if she has one, her lawyer will try to get attorney fees from him. He may not have much of a chance if she is belligerent.
