Legal Question in Family Law in Utah
LDS standards
My husbands ex wife is tring to force us to follow LDS standards when exercising our visitation with his 15 year old daughter. We are not LDS and do not agree with a lot of what the church says is right. We are raising 6 of our own children. We uphold them to high standards and moral just not ''LDS'' ones. Our other children are well mannered and behaved, so is my step daughter, but her mom is threating to have the court specify that she is to be raised within the LDS church standerds and ways of life. Can a court do that? I thought state and religion are seperate. If she can't prove that we are putting her in direct danger or harm by our way of life how can she change anything in their decree? She threatens to take away all visitation if he does not comply with her demands. She is now forcing him into mediation. What should he tell her and the mediator?

Re: LDS standards
Your husband should get an attorney to attend mediation and go to court. His ex wife is clearly overstepping her bounds and your husband needs someone to help protect his rights and those of your step daughter. Email me at [email protected].
