Legal Question in Family Law in Utah
Legal rights to the biological father in adoption
My girlfriend is having a baby in April. She tells me that I'm the father and I am positive that I am too. She planning to adopt the baby off to a family in Texas. I don't want that. I know that I can care for and provide for the baby and give it everything it needs. The question I have is : Is there anything that I can do to stop the adoption and if so is there even a good chance of me getting the baby (since I've heard that the mother usually has the courts side and there isn't a good chance of me getting the baby)?
I really appreciate any help in this situation that you guys can give me seeing as how this is the first time something like this has happened and I'm lost as to what I should do and start doing to help ensure that this baby is to stay with it's biological father. Thank you for your time.

Re: Legal rights to the biological father in adoption
How can a single man who must work to provide a living, give a baby everything it needs? A baby needs someone with it 24/7 to give it love and security? A $5 per hour babysitter, who may quit without notice - or who may not care for the baby? Think this through a little more carefully, through the eyes of the baby. You ex is right. Neither she nor you is ready for a baby, until you can take care of an adult relationship.
However, if you want to preserve your parental rights you have to file a paternity action to get you named as the legal father. Are you prepared to spend the money it takes to get you so declared - and then for the next 18 years?
