Legal Question in Family Law in Utah

Marriage at 17

I am 20 years old living in utah, and my fiance is 17. We recently got hewr out of an abusive living situation with her mother into the custody of her neighbors. They have turned sides and are working to separate us. Is there any way for us to get married without their consent? If so, what are the steps I need to take to make that happen?

Re: Marriage at 17

You are both extremely young to get married. The custodians apparently are concerned that you are not ready for the responsibilities of marriage. The biggest problem is you are not old enough to have had enough maturation to deal with all of the issues and responsibilities of marriage. The other problem is that being married is expensive. Do you have the financial ability to support a wife - and the children which will certainly follow? What about each of you getting an education? Trying to support a family on a high school education or less is almost impossible.

If you want a plan to show your responsibility then make a plan for both of you to finish high school and get some college or other career training (tech school). After you get a good job, then show the custodians that you have shown you are responsible and prepared.
